Singer and songwriter John Denver touched millions of people and reached superstar status with his folk-based pop songs many of them based in Colorado. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell, New Mexico. He was enthralled by Colorado and settled down in Aspen. Denver's iconic anthems for Colorado have inspired many people to move to the state. G. Brown, curator of Colorado Music Hall of Fame said the following: John Denver is the only artist to represent Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever inductee. He has become the personification of Colorado to the everyone around the world. Certainly in my travels you meet someone from the other part of the globe, or someone of New Zealand and you say "I'm of Colorado and the first word that comes that comes out of their mouths is Oh John Denver! Brown explained. Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief stint with folk bands and was his debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff composed the tune to Johnny Cash but Denver recognized the song's potential when he first heard it. The song was recorded a couple of days after performing on stage in Washington D.C. before an large crowd who were very appreciative.
